The Center of PhenoGenomics (CPG) is overseeing animal experimentation at EPFL. It enhances research excellence by providing tailored services and upholding the highest standards of animal welfare in compliance with laws and ethics. To strengthen its team, the CPG is currently seeking a highly motivated and organized project manager for a maternity leave replacement. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the various activities involving zebrafish as a research model.

Your mission : The project manager will work under the guidance of the head of the zebrafish unit at the CPG, to execute the projects run in the context of the services activities of the unit.

Main duties and responsibilities include : Tasks will include: 

  • Participation to the smooth running of the facility and the daily tasks of the facility, including feeding duties and on call duties outside of normal working hours.
  • Execution of the service projects for the users of the unit. The services currently provided are (not limited to):  
    • Screening, maintenance and breeding of zebrafish colonies (mutants and transgenic lines);
    • Generation of genetically modified animals (transgenesis, gene knock in-knock out);
    • Embryology procedures such as in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, micro-injection and micro-manipulation (cell transplantation, cell dissociation);
    • Microscopy experiments (widefield, confocal or light sheets).
  • Mentoring of the users of the zebrafish.
  • Participation in the facility ongoing development, proposals for improvements, and staying abreast of technical and scientific advancements in the zebrafish field.

Start date : As soon as possible.

Term of employment : Fixed-term (CDD)

Work rate : 80%-100%%

Duration : Fixed-term (CDD),1 year We are supportive of flexible work arrangements from 80% to 100% 

Qualifications

  • Master degree in biology or a related field of life sciences.
  • Excellent technical skills with previous experience in phenotypic analysis of zebrafish.
  • Proficiency in designing and running scientific projects (implementing the experimental protocol, troubleshooting and data analysis).
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Team worker with good communication skills.
  • English mandatory, good knowledge of French.
