Christine Beattie Travel Award
The Christine Beattie Travel Award has been established to honor the memory of Dr. Christine Beattie (1965 – 2018) and her commitment to training the next generation. Christine was a developmental neurobiologist who made numerous contributions to our understanding of neuromuscular development and disease using the zebrafish model. During her postdoctoral years with Judith Eisen at the University of Oregon, Christine began working on zebrafish motoneuron development, research she continued as an independent investigator at The Ohio State University. At Ohio State, Christine expanded her studies to understand how motor axons are disrupted in neuromuscular disease, specifically Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and developed one of the most genetically accurate zebrafish models of a human disease.
The fund was established by generous donations from Christine’s many colleagues and friends. Donate to this Award Fund
The Christine Beattie Travel Award will fund travel awards to the International Zebrafish Conference for a postdoctoral fellow in the first three years of their training and/or a graduate student who has demonstrated research excellence in any area of zebrafish research. At the time of the meeting, grad student applicants should be about to start their 3rd (or greater) year of graduate school.
