Description & Details:Area: Genetic Modelling of Vascular Anomalies in Zebrafish The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Genetic Modelling of Vascular Anomalies in Zebrafish. We are looking for a creative, motivated postdoc to conduct independent research on the genetic basis of arteriovenous malformation and vascular overgrowths. Our lab models human genetic mutations leading to vascular anomalies in the zebrafish model so that we can understand the mechanism of disease, identify inhibitors and understand the interactions between genetic and mechanical (mechanobiology) inputs into vessel formation and homeostasis. This project will focus on the MAP kinase signaling pathway in vascular biology. The postdoc will use molecular biology skills to create molecular constructs, conduct state of the art microscopy (Zeiss LSM 880, TEM and other techniques), knockout (CRISPR), gain of function (transgenic) techniques to probe the biology associated vascular malformations. The postdoc will collaborate with other members of the lab and be part of a vibrant developmental biology and genetics with access to all state of the art equipment necessary for the project.
