Knowledge Exchange Grant

About the Grant

The IZFS Knowledge Exchange Grant is an initiative designed to enable the exchange of knowledge, technology and expertise between zebrafish labs. This grant is intended to be used to help cover travel, accommodation, and incidentals of a researcher to learn in another laboratory.

Who is Eligible

IZFS Members who are at any career level between PhD Student to PI are eligible to apply.

Awardee Will Receive

• Travel Award up to $5,000.
• Recognition on the IZFS website.

General Application Procedures

Application Form

Nominations should be submitted in a digital form and include the following information:

1. A statement (maximum 2 pages) from the person who will be traveling (“the applicant”) describing the purpose of the exchange. This should include the specific technique or expertise being sought, the rationale for the choice of the host lab, and how the knowledge gained from the exchange will impact their research project.
2. A letter from the P.I. of the applicant lab (if the P.I. is not themself the applicant) stating their support for the exchange and how the expertise that is gained through the expertise will be implemented in their lab. If the budget (#5 below) exceeds $5,000, state the other sources of support that will be used for the exchange.
3. A letter from the P.I. of the host lab stating their specific expertise and their willingness to share it with the applicant.
4. C.V.s of the applicant, the P.I. of the applicant’s lab (if applicable), and the P.I. of the host lab.
5. A budget with approximate travel and accommodation costs. If the budget exceeds the $5,000 travel award, provide information on how the additional expenses will be funded. 

Award Winner Expectations

• The grant must be used between January 1 – December 31 of the year following their application.
• The recipient is expected to write a summary of their experience (including images) which will be published in the IZFS News Splash.

Important Dates

Applications will open August 4, 2026.
Applications will close October 4, 2026.
Applicants will receive updates on their application by the end of November.
